Sensitivity of life disparity with respect to changes in mortality rates

چکیده

This article is concerned with sensitivity analysis of life disparity with respect to changes in mortality rates. A relationship is derived that describes the effect on life disparity caused by a perturbation of the force of mortality. Recently Zhang and Vaupel introduced a “threshold age”, before which averting deaths reduces disparity, while averting deaths after that age increases disparity. I provide a refinement to this result by characterizing the ages at which averting deaths has an extremal impact on life disparity. The results are illustrated using data for the female populations of Denmark in 1835, and for the United States in 2005. 1 Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research, Konrad-Zuse-Straße 1, 18057 Rostock, Germany. Useful comments by James Vaupel and also Trifon Missov and Zhen Zhang are gratefully acknowledged. http://www.demographic-research.org 63 Wagner: Sensitivity of life disparity with respect to changes in mortality rates

THE EFFECT OF HEALTH INDICATORS AND MACROECONOMIC VARIABLES ON THE LEVEL OF LIFE EXPECTANCY: COMPARISON OF DEVELOPING AND DEVELOPED COUNTRIES WITH THE PANEL DATA APPROACH

Background & Aims: Economic and social factors have a great impact on health and consequently on life expectancy. Health means having complete physical, mental, and social well-being, and it does not only refer to the absence of disease and disability. Health status depends on the factors affecting it, including economic, social, cultural, physical environment, genetic factors, and the level of...

Coverage expanded from 57% of the population (before the introduction of national health insurance) to 98%. OBJECTIVE To assess the role of national health insurance in improving life expectancy and reducing health disparities in Taiwan. DESIGN ...

KEY WORDS Objectives: To measure disparities between African Americans and whites in colorectal cancer incidence and mortality rates between 1995-2006 in Wisconsin. Methods: Cancer incidence data were obtained from the Wisconsin Cancer Reporting System. Cancer mortality data were accessed from the SEER. Trends in incidence and mortality rates were calculated and changes in relative disparity we...

Camera Arrangement in Visual 3D Systems using Iso-disparity Model to Enhance Depth Estimation Accuracy

In this paper we address the problem of automatic arrangement of cameras in a 3D system to enhance the performance of depth acquisition procedure. Lacking ground truth or a priori information, a measure of uncertainty is required to assess the quality of reconstruction. The mathematical model of iso-disparity surfaces provides an efficient way to estimate the depth estimation uncertainty which ...

قدرت پیش بینی کنندگی مرگ ومیر ابزارهای GAPو MGAP در بیماران با ترومای متعدد

Background and purpose: Trauma scoring systems help physicians and nurses in recognizing the severity of trauma and its management. The purpose of this study was to investigate and compare the predictive ability of mortality rates of two trauma scoring systems (MGAP and GAP) in multiple trauma patients. Materials and methods: In this cross-sectional study, we used the data available in electro...
